A construction site in Hong Kong's Tai Po district narrowly avoided a serious industrial accident after a worker was seen hanging beneath a suspended lifting bucket at a height of several dozen metres, according to a video circulated on social media on Saturday (June 6).
The footage, which began circulating online in the afternoon, appeared to show the worker falling out of the lifting bucket while working at height at a construction site in Cheung Shue Tan, Tai Po. The worker was prevented from falling to his death by a safety harness attached to the bucket.
The worker was seen dangling in mid-air with both feet off the ground, clutching the safety harness with both hands.
The 17-second video shows a crane slowly lowering the bucket before the worker eventually reaches the ground safely. He was wearing a safety helmet and a high-visibility vest. The safety harness is believed to have saved his life.
One social media user commented: "Luckily he was wearing a safety harness."
The lifting bucket shown in the footage appeared to be loaded with large rocks. At the end of the video, another worker could be heard reacting to the incident, saying: "That was close—he nearly lost his life."
The incident sparked discussion online, with some users questioning the circumstances surrounding the operation.
According to available information, a fatal industrial accident occurred at the same construction site on Sept. 30 last year. A 62-year-old female worker was trapped by a crane and suffered chest and back injuries. She was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where she later died despite emergency treatment.
