On June 4, Hong Kong and Uzbekistan exchanged diplomatic notes to advance a mutual visa-free arrangement, aiming for up to 30 days visa-free stays once implementation details are finalized. If implemented, it would be an upgrade from the current situation, where HKSAR passport holders can enter Uzbekistan visa-free for 10 days.
On the infrastructure side, the most tangible long-term link is the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan Railway (CKU railway), which many view as a landmark Central Asia connectivity project. In June 2024, the three countries signed an intergovernmental agreement, and in December 2024, a commencement ceremony was held in Kyrgyzstan.
A key "cold fact" is that connectivity doesn't wait for megaprojects. Even before the railway is completed, a China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan road–rail intermodal transport system is already operating, and reportedly hit a milestone in 2024—showing a common corridor logic: run first, optimize later.
