Travelers planning to visit South Korea should take note that the Seoul Metropolitan Government will launch a month-long intensive enforcement campaign this month targeting people who feed pigeons in designated restricted areas. Violators may face fines of up to 1 million won.
According to South Korean media reports, Seoul authorities will conduct intensive enforcement operations throughout June in areas where pigeon feeding is prohibited. After the campaign concludes, regular inspections will continue.
Warning signs and banners prohibiting the feeding of pigeons have been installed at major squares and parks across the city.
Since April 2025, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has designated 38 locations as no-feeding zones for wild pigeons. These include Seoul Plaza, Gwanghwamun Square, Seoul Forest, and 11 areas within Hangang Park.
The city began imposing fines for feeding pigeons in restricted areas on July 1, 2025.
Under the regulations, individuals caught feeding pigeons in designated zones face a fine of 200,000 won for a first offense. A second violation carries a fine of 500,000 won, while a third or subsequent offense may result in a fine of up to 1 million won.
