Former Miss Hong Kong contestant and TVB actress GoGo Cheung has won a defamation lawsuit against her sister-in-law Jade, with the High Court ordering Jade to pay over HK$3.12 million in damages plus interest. Jade's counterclaim was dismissed.
Cheung sued Jade in 2020, alleging that Jade's social media posts and media leaks — accusing Cheung of being "vain and money-worshipping" and misusing HK$1 million meant for Cheung's son — caused her such extreme stress that she suffered a miscarriage.
Jade counterclaimed, accusing Cheung of defaming her by alleging she practised black magic and "raised ghost children".
The judge ruled that Cheung's interpretation of Jade's statements as accusing her of dishonesty was reasonable, and that Jade was responsible for media republication. On the counterclaim, the judge found Cheung's statements defamatory but made "in reply to an attack", and therefore dismissed it.
