Hong Kong has been experiencing persistently hot weather in recent days. The Hong Kong Observatory said today (June 3) that some areas will be extremely sweltering tomorrow and the day after (June 4 to June 5), with maximum temperatures reaching 35°C or above.
The Observatory noted that Guangdong will have light winds and persistently scorching conditions over the next two days, with high temperatures also likely to trigger showers. A low-pressure area over the central-southern South China Sea will gradually develop and move across the northeastern South China Sea over the next day or two, generally heading toward the Taiwan region. Meanwhile, affected by subsiding air associated with this system, extreme heat will persist in Guangdong over the next two days.
The Observatory expects that a broad trough of low pressure will linger along the coast of southern China and over the northern South China Sea early next week, bringing showers and thunderstorms to the region. Influenced by easterly airflow, temperatures along the coast of Guangdong will drop slightly in the middle to latter part of next week. Starting Sunday (June 7), Hong Kong will see five consecutive days of rainfall, accompanied by a noticeable drop in temperature. From Monday (June 8), maximum temperatures will reach 30°C for three consecutive days, then by Thursday (June 11) they will drop to 29°C.
