More than 200 guests from around the world gathered in Hong Kong on Saturday (May 30) to celebrate Eid al-Adha, one of the most important festivals in Islam, at a halal banquet aimed at promoting the city's growing halal culinary sector and strengthening cultural and business exchanges with Muslim communities worldwide.
Jointly organized by the Hong Kong Delicacies Promotion Association and Silk Road Halal Enterprise Development (HK) Limited, the Eid al-Adha Halal Banquet was held at Palace Wedding Banquet in Kwun Tong. The event welcomed approximately 240 guests representing around 20 nationalities, including leaders of HK's Muslim community, halal industry representatives, business professionals from the Middle East and other regions, members of the Legislative Council, and consular officials.
Eid al-Adha, known as the Festival of Sacrifice, symbolizes loyalty, devotion and compassion. Organizers said the banquet adhered strictly to halal certification requirements, with all ingredients sourced through halal-compliant supply chains. The event also highlighted HK's capacity to host large-scale halal-certified catering functions.
One of the evening's key highlights was a roasted whole lamb cutting ceremony led by organizers and distinguished guests. The ceremony reflected the spirit of sharing and generosity associated with Eid al-Adha and marked the official opening of the celebration.
Guests also attended a presentation on halal certification standards delivered by Dr. Syeeda Khatija and strategic partner Ilnur Minakhmetov. The presentation outlined international halal certification requirements and explained how the banquet complied with halal standards throughout the entire process, from ingredient sourcing and food preparation to service and event management.
Speaking at the event, representatives of the organizing bodies highlighted the opportunities presented by the rapidly growing global halal economy. They noted that the development of halal-certified products, catering services and tourism could further strengthen HK's position as an international city serving visitors and businesses from Muslim-majority markets.
The organizers said the event reflected ongoing efforts to promote diversity and inclusion while creating new opportunities for HK's food and beverage industry and expanding economic ties with Muslim communities around the world.
