The Saudi-Hong Kong Business Council (SHKBC) has held its flagship "Two Gateways, One Future" event in Hong Kong, bringing together government officials, business leaders and investors to explore new opportunities for cooperation between Saudi Arabia and HK.
The event focused on strengthening collaboration in sectors including investment, energy, technology, infrastructure, finance and professional services, while creating new channels for business matching between companies from both markets.
Among the attendees were Ayidh Al Yami, Chief Representative of the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Investment in China; Saleh Al Khabti, Chairman of ACWA Power China and former Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Investment of Saudi Arabia, MISA; Adrian Cheng, Chairman of the SHKBC; representatives from InvestHK; and executives from dozens of companies.
In his opening remarks, Cheng said HK's role as an international financial and professional services hub positions it to support deeper economic engagement between the country and the Middle East. He added that the Council would focus on areas including financial innovation, renewable energy, artificial intelligence, infrastructure, family offices, cultural tourism and professional services.
During the event, the Council announced several leadership appointments, including the appointment of Saleh Al Khabti as Honorary Chairman. The Council also witnessed the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement between Vice Chairman Gao Chao and Jia Hongbo, Chairman of the Global Value Investing Association.
Speaking at the event, Al Khabti said the Council should prioritize tangible business outcomes over ceremonial activities.
"The true measure of success is the amount of investment generated," he said. "This year, the focus is on action, not celebration."
He expressed hope that within the next year the Council would facilitate both Saudi investment projects in HK and HK companies' expansion into Saudi Arabia.
The event concluded with a closed-door session where participants discussed potential cooperation projects and investment opportunities.
The SHKBC said it aims to serve as a platform for business collaboration and market access, supporting companies seeking opportunities under Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 strategy and broader economic engagement between the Middle East and Asia.
