A video circulating online recently shows a man in a roadside argument in Singapore with two female security guards, reportedly over a tour coach's illegal parking. In the clip, the man uses profanity while berating the guards, sparking public criticism.
The man in the video has been identified as Lee Cheuk-hing, principal of Tuen Mun San Wui Commercial Society Secondary School in Hong Kong.
In an interview with DotDotNews on Wednesday (28 May), Lee apologized for the incident and said he had submitted his resignation letter to the school's incorporated management committee earlier that day. He added that he would fully cooperate with any investigations and arrangements by the Education Bureau and the school board. Lee also said he would resign from several district-level roles he currently holds.
"I should have set a good example. No matter what the situation is, I should have remained calm and restrained," Lee said, adding that he had failed to do so. He said he would reflect deeply on his actions and urged students not to imitate him but to stay calm and resolve problems rationally.
Lee again apologized for the distress caused to the public in Hong Kong and to those in Singapore, saying, "Once again, I feel very sorry."
