On May 18, local time, Iran established a new body called the "Persian Gulf Strait Authority" to oversee the Strait of Hormuz. On the same day, the authority officially launched its social media account, which will provide real-time updates on the latest developments in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a social media post on 18 May that after Tehran "imposed control" over the Strait of Hormuz, "it can be announced that all fiber optic cables passing through this waterway must obtain permits, submit to supervision, and pay sovereign fees."
