China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun responded to questions regarding the case of Jimmy Lai during a regular press briefing today (May 15).
A reporter asked whether the Jimmy Lai case had been discussed during talks between Chinese and US leaders.
Guo stressed that China had previously stated its position on the matter on multiple occasions.
"Jimmy Lai was a key planner and participant in the anti-China and Hong Kong-destabilizing events. Hong Kong affairs are China's internal affairs, and the Chinese central government firmly supports Hong Kong SAR's judicial authorities in carrying out their duties in accordance with the law," he said.
