According to combined Japanese media reports, major Japanese snack manufacturer Calbee announced on May 11 that due to continued tensions in the Middle East, shortages of solvents, resins, and the key raw material naphtha have affected the procurement of printing ink. As a result, the company has decided to temporarily change the packaging of its main products, including potato chips, to a black-and-white color scheme.
According to the Yomiuri Shimbun, the adjustment will be implemented gradually from late May, covering 14 mainstay products, including lightly salted and consomme potato chips. Calbee stated that in order to prioritize ensuring a stable product supply, it will temporarily reduce the number of printing ink colors used on packaging to two colors.
Additionally, Fuji News Network reported that Calbee has also announced the cancellation of its planned sour cream flavor potato chips originally scheduled for release in July.
