As the Mainland's five-day Golden Week holiday got underway, Immigration Department figures showed that as of 9 p.m. yesterday, more than 288,000 visitors had arrived, of whom over 242,000 were from the Mainland, representing a year-on-year increase of approximately 9.5%.
Speaking at an event yesterday, Yau noted that a large number of visitors are expected to come to Hong Kong during the Golden Week. He said that while Hong Kong is integrating into the Greater Bay Area (GBA), it also hopes to bring Mainland visitors from the Greater Bay Area to Hong Kong to support the city's economic development, facilitate the smooth flow of people, goods, and capital, and create opportunities for the retail sector.
