A commuter train and a long-distance train collided in Bekasi, West Java, Indonesia, on the evening of April 27 local time. In an update on April 28, the Indonesian railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia confirmed that the accident had left seven people dead and 81 others injured, who are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
Preliminary information indicates that the commuter train was stationary on the tracks when the long-distance train subsequently entered the same line and collided with it.
Bekasi, located just over 20 kilometres east of the Indonesian capital Jakarta, is one of the city's key satellite towns. An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
