According to CCTV News, demand for train tickets for the May Day holiday has been high since they went on sale. To maximize passenger satisfaction, the railway department plans to adjust the nighttime maintenance windows for high-speed trains during peak travel periods at the beginning and end of the holiday, and on routes with relatively concentrated passenger traffic. Under the premise of ensuring safety, direct overnight high-speed trains will be operated on major high-speed rail lines such as Beijing-Shanghai, Beijing-Guangzhou, and Beijing-Harbin from the night of April 29th to the early morning of May 2, and from the night of May 4 to the early morning of May 6. Approximately 700 additional trains will be added daily.
Tickets for these additional overnight high-speed trains will be sold in tiers according to the direction of travel. Tickets for some trains will go on sale 7 days before departure, while tickets for others will go on sale 5 days before departure. This is to prevent cancellations due to severe weather or other unforeseen circumstances after early ticket sales. The specific start date for ticket sales for each direct overnight high-speed train is subject to the information displayed on the 12306 website. The railway department advises passengers to check train information in advance and purchase tickets online 5 to 7 days before departure.
