On April 19 local time, police reported that a mass shooting occurred in Louisiana, resulting in the deaths of eight children aged 1 to 14. Authorities stated that the shooter killed his seven children and the child of another relative due to a family dispute. The incident has shocked the local community and is one of the deadliest mass shootings in the country in more than two years.
According to Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith, the shooting occurred around 6 am that morning. He stated that a total of 10 people were shot, one of whom was the shooter's wife and the mother of some of the children who died. According to US media reports, she was shot in the face, has undergone surgery, and is believed to be out of life-threatening danger. Another woman is in serious condition; she is also reported to be the mother of some of the children who died. Officials said they are still gathering detailed information about the crime scene. The incident spanned three locations, involving two houses and a house in a nearby neighborhood.
Some US media outlets report that a 13-year-old boy jumped from the roof to escape during the shooting. Police said he suffered several fractures but is expected to recover fully. Police believe a third woman also escaped the shooting.
