The Hong Kong Rugby Sevens continues today (April 18) at the main stadium in Kai Tak. The second day of the tournament features World Series group stage matches and quarterfinals. The Hong Kong men's and women's teams are competing in the Silver Sword matches. The women's team took on Thailand at 2:12 pm, while the men's team will face Japan at 3:16 pm.
According to DotDotNews reporter at the scene, in the just-concluded women's rugby match, Hong Kong lost to Thailand with a score of 12-24. In the first half, Thailand took an early 5-0 lead, after which Hong Kong fought back to narrow the gap to 5-7. Early in the second half, Hong Kong fell behind again as Thailand extended their lead, with the score reaching 7-24. Hong Kong battled hard to bring the score to 12-24. The Hong Kong women's rugby team has now completed all of its matches.
The opening match of the 2027 Rugby World Cup is scheduled to take place on Oct. 1 in Perth, where the Hong Kong men's fifteen-a-side rugby team will face hosts Australia in the opening game. This marks Hong Kong's first-ever appearance in the World Cup. Today, the men's team completed a lap of honor at Kai Tak.
