Hong Kong Sevens and the 2026 UCI Track World Cup will take place from April 17 to 19, after both events were officially awarded the prestigious "M" Mark status by the Major Sports Events Committee on April 13.
Committee Chairman Wilfred Ng said world-class rugby teams will gather at Kai Tak Stadium for three days of high-intensity competition at the Hong Kong Sevens. At the same time, the Hong Kong Velodrome will transform into a stage of speed, hosting elite cyclists from around the world competing in the Track World Cup, showcasing top-tier technique and thrilling pace.
Ng noted that the two major sporting events will not only promote sports development in HK but also generate economic benefits, further strengthening the city's position as a premier destination for international sporting events.
The "M" Mark system aims to encourage and support local sports associations, private entities, and non-governmental organizations to host more large-scale international sporting events. Qualified events may receive official recognition under the scheme, with some also eligible for funding support.
The initiative is designed to foster the sustainable development of major sports events, cultivate a strong sporting culture in HK, and enhance the city's global image as a hub for international sports, while delivering tangible economic benefits to society.
