A fatal traffic accident occurred on the Tsing Ma Bridge last night (April 10). A truck and a private car were traveling along the North Lantau Highway toward Tung Chung when they collided on the bridge deck. An 82-year-old female passenger was found unconscious, sent to the hospital, and later pronounced dead.
Police reported that they received a report at 10:09 pm last night, stating that a 35-year-old male truck driver, while driving a truck along the North Lantau Highway toward Tung Chung, allegedly collided with a private car that was parked at the location.
A 54-year-old male driver of the private car sustained multiple injuries to his head and limbs; a 57-year-old female passenger in the private car suffered chest pain; and a 15-year-old male passenger in the private car had no visible injuries. All three were conscious and sent to Princess Margaret Hospital for treatment.
Another 82-year-old female passenger sustained head and hand injuries, was found unconscious, and was sent to Yan Chai Hospital for treatment, where she was pronounced dead at 11:13 pm the same night. The truck driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death and is currently being detained for investigation.
According to sources, the private car is believed to have had a tire blowout and pulled over to the roadside before being hit from behind by the truck.
