Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law said today (March 25) that an agreement has been reached with Art Basel to confirm Hong Kong as the exhibition's sole regional venue for the next five years, a move she said will consolidate the city's position as the exclusive host city.
Law said Hong Kong will work more closely with Art Basel over the next five years. The fair will be larger and have greater influence, and will attract art lovers and collectors from around the world each March in various formats.
Law added that Art Basel drew more than 80,000 visitors two years ago and increased to 86,000 last year, about half of whom were visitors. The government will support the fair with high‑level cultural performances and major events; Art Basel will also carry out public art education and promotion in Hong Kong and assist with research into art transactions.
Art Basel Hong Kong 2026 will be held from March 27 to 29 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, with preview days today (March 25) and tomorrow (March 26). The fair highlights contemporary and modern art from Asia and the world, bringing together 240 galleries from 41 countries and regions, including 32 galleries making their debut at the fair.
