Australia is grappling with fuel shortages amid escalating conflict in the Middle East, with 600 service stations already affected nationwide, according to a parliamentary address by Energy Minister Chris Bowen. At least one fuel type has run out at these outlets, representing 10% of all service stations. The shortages are concentrated in the most populous states of New South Wales and Victoria.

To ease supply constraints, the Australian government will relax diesel quality standards over the next six months, expanding domestic supply sources and opening up to potential suppliers from the United States, Canada, and Europe.

After tapping into stockpiles last week, Australia currently has 38 days of petrol reserves and 30 days of diesel reserves remaining.
