The Japanese animation studio Ajia-do Animation Works announced on its official website today (March 17) that Tsutomu Shibayama, who directed the "Doraemon" film series for over 20 years, passed away on March 6 at the age of 84 from lung cancer.
Tsutomu Shibayama began his career in animation production in 1963 and directed 22 "Doraemon" films during his lifetime, with the first one being "Doraemon: Nobita and the Castle of the Undersea Devil," released in 1983. In addition, he served as a key animation supervisor on series such as "Ashita no Joe" and "Tensai Bakabon," and directed several other projects, including "Nintama Rantarō," "Chibi Maruko-chan," and "Ranma ½."
