The organizer of Taiwanese band Mayday's four scheduled concerts at the Kai Tak Sports Park abruptly announced on Monday (March 9) the cancellation of the first show originally set for March 24, replacing it with a final performance on March 29. The Consumer Council has received over 20 complaints regarding the change.
Customs Commissioner Chan Tsz-tat stated today (March 11) that authorities are closely monitoring the situation, noting that the concert services may not be provided due to the organizer's operational issues. "If any individuals who purchased tickets are unable to attend the concert, Customs will examine the circumstances and actual situation. If violations of the Trade Descriptions Ordinance are found, corresponding enforcement actions will be taken," Chan said.
According to the Consumer Council, as of 1 pm yesterday (March 10), it had received 24 complaints related to the cancelled Mayday concert, including 8 from local consumers and 16 from non-local consumers. The total amount involved exceeds HK $63,600, with the highest individual case amounting to HK$6,700. Complaints include the organizer's failure to offer replacement show options and disruptions to hotel and transportation arrangements for visitors who traveled specifically to Hong Kong for the concert.
