Welcome to Sessions In-sight! Two Sessions, one minute.
Today (March 9), the fourth session of the 14th National People's Congress held its second plenary meeting.
Key updates include:
Legislative Focus: The NPC Standing Committee is prioritizing economic laws, including a new State-Owned Assets Law and revisions to bankruptcy and tax laws. To support the "financially strong nation" goal, it plans to enact Finance and Financial Stability Laws and revise central bank and banking regulations.
Anti-Corruption & Innovation: Lawmakers will introduce a law targeting cross-border corruption and intensify legislative research in emerging fields like artificial intelligence.
Juvenile Justice Milestone: The judiciary reported a significant "double decline"—the first in five years—with fewer prosecutions for both crimes against minors and crimes committed by minors. This came alongside severe punishments for extreme cases, including a life sentence for a 14-year-old offender.
Procuratorial Work: Procurators expanded oversight across multiple sectors, intensifying crackdowns on financial crimes (smuggling, securities violations, money laundering) and recovering significant funds. Efforts also focused on protecting businesses, intellectual property, data security, and combating telecom fraud.
