On March 5, the Fourth Session of the 14th National People's Congress opened at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. In remarks on China–U.S. relations, CPPCC National Committee member and Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng said history has repeatedly shown that "cooperation benefits both sides, while confrontation hurts both."
He stressed that China has principles and red lines it must uphold and will firmly safeguard its sovereignty, security, and development interests. Xie expressed hope that the U.S. and China will work in the same direction and take concrete actions to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, and advance bilateral ties toward stable, sound, and sustainable development based on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation—benefiting both peoples and contributing to global peace and stability.
