Today (March 4), a press conference was held at the Great Hall of the People for the fourth session of the 14th National People's Congress. Spokesperson Lou Qinjian addressed questions from journalists, emphasizing that China has consistently believed that mutual respect and equality among countries of all sizes are essential for historical progress and are fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter. "No country has the right to dominate international affairs, dictate the destiny of other countries, or monopolise development advantages, let alone impose whatever it wishes on the world."

A reporter from Turkey's Anadolu Agency asked about recent U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iran that led to the deaths of its leaders. The reporter also referenced the arrest of a Venezuelan president and U.S. claims of wanting to annex Greenland. As unilateralism escalates, there are growing concerns about the collapse of global governance and the diminishing role of the UN.

Lou Qinjian expressed China's deep concern regarding Iran, asserting that its sovereignty and security must be respected. He called for an immediate halt to military actions to prevent escalating tensions and urged the resumption of dialogue to maintain peace in the Middle East.

Lou noted significant shifts in the international landscape over the past year, with economic globalization facing severe challenges and rising localized conflicts. He stated that peaceful development and cooperation are essential paths forward, highlighting President Xi's proposed initiatives for global governance based on sovereign equality and multilateralism.

He also reflected on the 80th anniversary of the UN's founding, emphasizing that the UN's role should be strengthened, not weakened. As a major power and permanent Security Council member, China commits to upholding the UN's authority and principles, promoting genuine multilateralism, and contributing to global governance reforms.
