Israel launched a "preemptive" strike against Iran on Saturday morning "to remove threats to Israel," the Israeli Defense Ministry said in a statement. According to local officials, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is currently not in Tehran and has been transferred to a secure location.
Additionally, Iranian media reported that mobile phone communication lines have been cut in parts of eastern and western Tehran, and internet connectivity has weakened in some areas.
Sources from the Israeli security establishment said that Israel and the US assessed over the past 24 hours that there was no possibility of negotiation with Iran, leading to the decision to carry out the strikes. An Israeli government official said that Israel is preparing for the first phase of a four-day intensive joint strike.
