According to US media reports, the number of people leaving the United States will exceed those moving in by 2025, marking the first "net population outflow" since 1935.
The report indicates that rising living costs and deteriorating safety conditions have caused many Americans to seek better living environments outside the US. For numerous Americans, the new "American dream" is to live abroad, with some commentators referring to this wave of emigration as the "Donald escape."
The US has historically attracted immigrants from around the world, with a peak of nearly 6 million incoming immigrants in 2023. However, by 2025, this number is expected to plummet to between 2.6 million and 2.7 million. Data published by the Department of Homeland Security indicates that the US will deport 675,000 individuals in 2025, while approximately 2.2 million will choose to "voluntarily depart."
According to the Brookings Institution, the net number of immigrants to the US in 2025 is projected to be negative, estimated at around -150,000, and the outflow may continue to increase in 2026.
