The Immigration Department has announced that, starting today (Feb. 27), it will relax the eligibility requirements for frequent visitors to Hong Kong to register for the e-Channel service, further facilitating visitor access and enhancing clearance efficiency.

Under the new arrangement, frequent visitors to Hong Kong—who hold valid travel documents and multiple-entry visas—only need to have visited Hong Kong International Airport at least twice within the past 24 months and meet the relevant conditions to register for the e-Channel service free of charge. Once successfully registered, travelers can use the e-Channel at various immigration control points in Hong Kong to enjoy a more convenient crossing experience.

Additionally, the registration process for the e-Channel service has also been simplified. Eligible travelers holding valid electronic travel documents can complete their registration at designated e-Channel registration points by presenting the valid travel document used for entry, taking a photo, and signing a consent form, without the need to collect fingerprints. The registration process for travelers with non-electronic travel documents remains unchanged.

Newly registered travelers using the e-Channel for immigration procedures only need to place their travel documents on the e-Channel document reader. Once inside the e-Channel, travelers with electronic travel documents must look into the camera for facial recognition, while those with non-electronic travel documents must place their registered fingers flat on the fingerprint scanner for verification. Upon successful identity verification and completion of the immigration process, an entry label will be issued. The exit process is similar, but no labels will be issued.
