The Seoul Central District Court is set to deliver its verdict Thursday in former impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol's insurrection trial stemming from his declaration of martial law in December 2024, according to Yonhap News Agency.
The verdict hearing is scheduled for 3 pm local time and will be broadcast live on national television, with Yoon in attendance.
A special counsel team on Jan. 13 demanded the death penalty for Yoon, calling him the ringleader of an insurrection, which under South Korean criminal law carries a possible sentence of death or life imprisonment, with or without prison labor.
