Newly released documents from the US Department of Justice regarding the Jeffrey Epstein case have implicated not only prominent political and business figures across Europe and America but also notable academics.

Yale University announced on Feb. 11 that it had suspended the teaching privileges of David Gelernter, a renowned professor of computer science, pending an investigation into his alleged involvement in recommending a female student to Epstein.

Gelernter reportedly maintained long-standing ties with Epstein, according to the revealed documents. In an email dated October 2011, Gelernter recommended one of his female students for a project associated with Epstein, describing her as "small, good-looking blonde."

In an internal email to Yale's Dean of Engineering, Jeffrey Brock, Gelernter defended his actions, stating, "This one (Epstein) was obsessed with girls (like every other unmarried billionaire in Manhattan; in fact, like every other heterosex male)...She was smart, charming & gorgeous. Ought I to have suppressed that info? Never! I'm very glad I wrote the note."

A Yale University spokesperson responded in a statement, emphasizing that the university does not condone such behavior or the language used in recommending a student. According to the spokesperson, an investigation is underway, and the professor will not be teaching until the investigation is concluded.

This development comes after former US Treasury Secretary, ex-Harvard President, and professor Larry Summers was forced to apologize and step down from teaching in November last year following revelations about his frequent interactions with Epstein.

Analysts have pointed out the inability of US laws to hold some wealthy and powerful individuals accountable.
