The High Court of the HKSAR on Monday morning (Feb. 9) sentenced Jimmy Lai, an instigator of anti-China riots in Hong Kong, to 20 years in prison.
Grenville Cross, Former Director of Public Prosecutions of HKSAR, stressed that nobody is above the law, everybody is equal before the law, and those who threaten the national security of China will have to face the consequences.
"At one time, clearly, some people in front parts thought that they could use people like Jimmy Lai to further their ends in HK, to undermine HK, and to weaken China. But now, they can see that they were going down a dead end, and that those types of activities will lead nowhere, and that if they try those types of things in the future, if they recruit other agents to do their dirty work for them, then those agents will be identified, they'll be investigated, they'll be prosecuted. And at the end of the day, there's a high chance that they will also be convicted," he said.
