Jimmy Lai, the founder of Next Digital and a key instigator of unrest in Hong Kong, along with three affiliated companies of Apple Daily, faced charges of conspiring to collude with foreign forces and two other offenses. All charges were previously found guilty. Lai, together with eight other co-defendants who pleaded guilty earlier, is scheduled to be sentenced today (Feb. 9) at 10 a.m. in the West Kowloon Magistrates' Court, temporarily serving as the High Court. The sentencing is expected to take approximately 60 minutes.
As early as 8 a.m., around 100 citizens were orderly lining up to obtain public gallery passes, while over 100 local and foreign journalists crowded the designated media zone. Dozens of police officers were stationed nearby to maintain order, with barricades set up around the perimeter of the court building to organize the queues.
Additionally, bomb disposal vehicles and other police vehicles were on standby in the vicinity.
