According to a report by The Hill cited by China News Network, U.S. President Donald Trump responded Tuesday to news of the deposition dates for former President Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as part of a House investigation into the convicted sex offenderJeffrey Epstein, calling it "a shame."
"I think it's a shame to be honest. I always liked him. Her? Yeah. She's a very capable woman who's better at debating than some of the other people, I'll tell you that. She was smarter, smart woman," Trump said in response to The Hill during a press gathering following a bill signing in the Oval Office.
As previously reported, in an email sent on the evening of Feb. 2 to House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman, Republican Representative James Comer, the Clintons' lawyer indicated that the clients would "testify on a mutually agreed date" and requested the House to postpone the contempt of Congress vote originally scheduled for the 4th.
On Jan. 13, the Clintons refused to appear before the House of Representatives to testify in the investigation, calling the congressional subpoena against them "illegal." James Comer subsequently filed a motion seeking to hold the Clintons in contempt of Congress.
Epstein was closely connected with numerous American political and business elites. After being arrested on sex crime charges, he died in prison in August 2019, ruled a "suicide." On Dec. 19, 2025, the U.S. Department of Justice began releasing Epstein case documents on its website, which repeatedly mention Clinton.
