A US$75 million documentary about US First Lady Melania Trump, titled "Melania: 20 Days to History", has faced a dual setback of poor box office performance and negative reviews since its global release on Jan. 30.
According to reports, the film has performed dismally in multiple markets across Europe and North America. In the US, major cities such as Los Angeles, New York, and Boston saw first-day ticket sales in single digits, with some screenings almost entirely empty.
The situation is equally grim overseas: in London, a flagship cinema sold just one ticket for its premiere screening, with only two additional tickets booked for the evening show.
In Toronto, Canada, most screenings reported dismal sales, and some evening shows registered no sales at all. Due to the lack of audience interest, the film's South African distributor has canceled its release plans entirely.
The documentary has also been critically panned. On the globally renowned review platform Rotten Tomatoes, the film scored a dismal 1.7 out of 10, reflecting widespread negative feedback from both professional critics and viewers.
The film documents Melania Trump's daily life and work during the 20 days leading up to her husband Donald Trump's 2025 presidential inauguration. Despite the backing of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, the documentary has failed to resonate with audiences.
