Founded in 1946, Cathay Pacific is about to celebrate its 80th anniversary. To mark this occasion, Cathay Pacific held an anniversary party tram parade today (Jan. 25), featuring several crew members dressed in classic uniforms from different eras, bringing aerial aesthetics to the tram tracks.
The parade took place from 1 pm to 4 pm, starting at the Kennedy Town Tram Depot and traveling through various locations on Hong Kong Island, with a round trip to North Point. The specially designed party tram showcased Cathay's classic green and white color theme, with the words "CATHAY PACIFIC" and "80 YEARS TOGETHER" printed on its body. Crew members donned ten different historical uniforms to greet the public.
Additionally, Cathay Pacific introduced four tram models featuring classic liveries that pay tribute to its iconic designs in history: including the classic "Betsy" Douglas DC-3 silver body, the first green-themed Convair 880 livery, the well-known "lettuce leaf sandwich" green and white retro style, and the modern "winged feather" logo. These special trams will operate on various routes on Hong Kong Island from today until Feb. 19.
Cathay's Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, Lavinia Lau, addressed the attendees, stating that 2026 holds significant meaning for Cathay. She noted that the company has experienced numerous changes, challenges, and breakthroughs alongside Hong Kong over the years. Earlier, Cathay painted an A350 aircraft in the classic green and white retro livery, which was very well received, and she hinted that a Boeing 747 with a retro livery will be unveiled soon. She also revealed that, in addition to these arrangements, Cathay will host a series of 80th-anniversary celebration events.
Lau specifically mentioned that the evolution of Cathay Pacific's uniforms resembles a history of fashion, from the deep blue and gray dresses of the 1940s to the red A-line mini skirts with round hats in 1969. She explained that this event invited flight attendants to showcase unique uniforms, aiming to let the public feel Cathay's professional heritage and "people-oriented" service culture.
