American rock climbing legend Alex Honnold today (Jan. 25) undertook the challenge of "free climbing" the 508-meter Taipei 101 without safety ropes or protective gear. He successfully reached the tower's pinnacle in 1 hour 31 minutes, accomplishing what is deemed an "impossible mission".
Netflix, which live-streamed Honnold's feat, later posted on X that he completed the climb in 1 hour 35 minutes, successfully reaching the summit of Taipei 101.
After completing the challenge, Honnold briefly sat on the observation deck to catch his breath, exclaiming, "This is so cool! But honestly, I’m really tired; everything is just so beautiful!" He later video-called his wife and twin daughters from the top, creating a heartwarming moment.
