Deepline | One year of chaos: Trump's return has shattered the global order

Today marks one year since Donald Trump returned to the White House. The world has plunged into disarray in just twelve months, a stark contrast to the functional international order that preceded it. Trump's brand of governance—unapologetically aggressive, erratic, and self-serving—has once again proven catastrophic on a global scale.

From reigniting trade wars to launching full-fledged military interventions, Trump has made it clear: the is not diplomacy. This is domination.

The most shocking move came at the start of 2026, when Trump ordered a military raid on Venezuela, capturing President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. Initially cloaked under the guise of anti-narcotics operations, the charade quickly fell apart when Trump blatantly admitted he was after Venezuela's oil. It was not a liberation but a loot mission—one that even U.S. energy companies hesitated to touch due to its sheer recklessness.

Trump's imperial gaze quickly shifted to Greenland. With disturbing frequency, he and his officials have reiterated their determination to acquire the territory—by any means necessary. In a move reminiscent of colonial-era coercion, Trump threatened NATO allies with increased tariffs if they refused to support his ambitions. This isn't a partnership; it's blackmail.

In response, eight European nations—Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and the UK—issued a joint statement condemning the U.S. tariff threats and reaffirming their commitment to Greenland's sovereignty. However, it's crucial to acknowledge that mere statements won't deter Trump.

Trump does not respect weakness. His strategy is rooted in the belief that only military might deserves a seat at the table. Smaller nations, regardless of their moral stance or legal rights, are expendable in his eyes. And unless NATO is prepared to act—not just speak—Trump will continue his campaign of coercion and conquest.

The world is witnessing the return of jungle politics, where the strong devour the weak, and international law is a tool to be ignored. Trump is no longer merely a controversial figure—he is an active threat to global stability.

Let his actions be a wake-up call for America's traditional allies. The more the world yields, the more Trump takes. The failure to condemn the U.S. invasion of Venezuela only paved the way for the assault on Greenland. Who will be next?

If Europe genuinely cherishes sovereignty, democracy, and the post-war global order it contributed to, it must establish a clear and decisive boundary. Dialogue is meaningless when met with tanks. If NATO wants to defend its dignity, it must be ready to defend its borders.
