The Immigration Department (IMMD) said it has contacted the Chinese consulate in an Iranian port city on the Strait of Hormuz, after the family of a Hong Kong woman travelling in the country reported losing contact with her for several days.

The woman, known as a travel vlogger "Bing," last shared a video on Threads on Jan. 6, mentioning that she was in Iran and intended to extend her visa.

Since then, there has been no further activity on her Instagram or Threads accounts.

Her post later drew wider attention when a user replied in the comments section, saying that her sister had been missing for days and the family had already approached the IMMD for support.

In response to media enquiries, the department confirmed that it had received a request for help and said it had contacted the Chinese consulate in the Iranian city of Bandar Abbas.

One of the victim's friends said that they finally received a call from the victim at around 12:30 a.m. Hong Kong time today (Jan. 17) to report that she is safe. The traveler is currently in Isfahan, Iran, having recently visited Tehran and Shiraz.
