On the evening of Jan. 13, the official Weibo account of the app "Are You Dead" announced that, after careful consideration by its team, the app will officially adopt the global brand name "Demumu" in its upcoming new version.
Demumu stated: "Following coverage by the BBC, our service has experienced explosive growth overseas. In the future, Demumu will continue to uphold its original mission of safety protection, bringing a safeguarding solution originating from China to the world and serving more people living alone globally."
On Jan. 14, a reporter observed in the Apple App Store that "Are You Dead" had already been renamed. Priced at HK$8, the app ranks second in the utility category on Apple's platform and enjoys significant popularity. The app features a simple interface: users only need to check in daily to report their "alive" status. If they fail to check in for multiple consecutive days, the system will automatically send an email alert to their emergency contacts. The straightforward product name has helped drive traffic, attracting a wide range of users to download the app, though it has also sparked considerable controversy. Some believe "Are You Dead" carries negative connotations and have suggested renaming it to "Are You Alive." The three "post-95s" developers responded that the software's original intention is to remind everyone to better face the present and ensure the safety of those living alone.
