A cold weather warning and strong monsoon signal are currently in effect. The Hong Kong Observatory stated today (Jan. 7) that the persistent influence of the winter monsoon is causing cold weather from today until Friday morning, with minimum temperatures around 10 to 11 degrees in urban areas and a few degrees lower in the New Territories. Citizens are advised to dress warmly and take extra care of the elderly and those with chronic illnesses. It is expected that temperatures will rise slightly over the weekend, but it will still be cool in the mornings.
The Observatory noted that the strong winter monsoon is bringing dry and sunny weather to the Guangdong coast. This morning, Hong Kong experienced cold weather, with the Observatory recording a minimum temperature of 10.9 degrees, the lowest since the beginning of winter. Additionally, temperatures in higher altitude areas are significantly lower. Due to stronger winds in some areas, the wind chill effect is notable, and residents are urged to wear warm clothing.
