According to reports, the New York State Department of Health announced on Dec. 26 that 71,123 flu cases were confirmed statewide during the week of Dec. 14 to Dec. 20, marking the highest weekly total since 2004.
Health officials highlighted a 38% increase in cases compared to the previous week. Additionally, flu-related hospitalizations during the same period surged by 63%.
Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant, practice personal protective measures, and prioritize vaccination. The health department emphasized that vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent influenza.
