The historic Yau Ma Tei Police Station, with over 100 years of history, will reopen to the public next month as part of the "Yau Ma Tei Police Station: A Cinematic Journey" exhibition.

Known as an iconic filming location for classic Hong Kong movies and dramas, including "Infernal Affairs" and "Armed Reaction", the station has become a popular photo spot for mainland tourists in recent years. However, with the station closed for years, visitors could only take photos outside its gates.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government has announced that the exhibition will open on Friday, Jan. 2, with tickets available online starting at 10 a.m. today (Dec. 27). Tickets are priced at HK$30 each.

The exhibition features four key themed areas that connect the police station's history with HK crime films and iconic movie scenes. For the first time, the station's former detention cells will be open to the public, where visitors can immerse themselves in the atmosphere by donning police or prisoner uniforms and posing against movie posters. Tourists visiting HK during the Christmas holiday expressed excitement about the exhibition, with one stating that "visiting the detention cells is more meaningful than just taking photos outside."

Opening the historic Yau Ma Tei Police Station is one of nine major tourism initiatives announced by the HKSAR Government in May. The goal is to provide visitors with a more immersive experience, allowing them to explore the station's layout, ambiance, and its connection to memorable scenes from HK crime films.

Built in 1922, the Yau Ma Tei Police Station is one of HK's few surviving pre-war police stations and has been classified as a Grade-2 historic building. The exhibition is organized by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency under the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau. It revitalizes the ground floor of the station, with local filmmakers redesigning parts of the station to showcase the creative power of HK's crime film legacy.

Tickets for the exhibition, which is open from Jan. 2 to Jan. 31, can be purchased online, with a limit of four tickets per transaction. On-site ticket sales will not be available.
