The mascots for China Central Television's 2026 Spring Festival Gala — "Qiqi," "Jiji," "Chichi," and "Chengcheng" — have been unveiled. Inspired by classic horse imagery from different periods in Chinese history and adorned with traditional cloud patterns, the four steeds perfectly embody the Gala's theme, "Galloping Steed, Onward Unstoppable," symbolizing imminent success.
"Qiqi" draws inspiration from the Li Ju Zun, a Western Zhou Dynasty bronze. Its dark, bluish-black hue comes from the character "Qi." Adorned with a frontlet, it carries a dignified and elegant air, representing a vibrant and ambitious spirit.
"Jiji" is inspired by the Han Dynasty's Heavenly Horse. Its galloping posture references the iconic "Galloping Horse" bronze, while its spread wings are adapted from Han-era flying horse designs, capturing a majestic, soaring energy.
"Chichi" is based on the Tang Dynasty's Three-Flower Horse, a top-grade steed with a mane trimmed into three locks, as seen in historical relics like the Six Stone Steeds. Vigorous and heroic, with a tied tail, it displays the confidence of the Tang era.
"Chengcheng" is modeled after the Przewalski's Horse, the world's only surviving wild horse species and a "living fossil." Its robust form is a testament to China's achievements in biodiversity conservation and ecological civilization.
These four dynamic steeds, blending historical beauty with contemporary spirit, will join global audiences in welcoming the New Year. May we all charge forward with unstoppable momentum and a bright future in the year ahead.
