Dayo Wong and Sammi Cheng, alongside director Jack Ng of "A Guilty Conscience" fame, are set to release the Lunar New Year comedy film "Night King." Director Jack Ng, who previously explored courtroom drama in "A Guilty Conscience," now shifts focus to the vibrant world of nightclubs in his latest work. In a recent interview, he shared the inspiration behind the film's story.
Ng revealed that the idea sparked during a celebration dinner for "A Guilty Conscience": "The actors were enjoying themselves, and Renci suddenly asked if I would make 'A Guilty Conscience 2.' I immediately said, 'No, I don't want to tackle such serious themes again.' Looking around the table filled with so many talented and beautiful actresses, a sudden idea flashed in my mind, and I blurted out, 'If we're making another film, let's do one about nightclubs!' As soon as I mentioned 'nightclubs,' everyone cheered and raised their hands in agreement."
He further explained another reason for choosing the nightclub theme: "I've always been fascinated by nightclub culture. In the 1980s and 1990s, Tsim Sha Tsui East was glamorous and bustling, but after the turn of the millennium, that era of glory is now in the past. Faced with the decline of Tsim Sha Tsui East, the people who once thrived there find themselves at a crossroads, unable to turn back—where do they go from here? This is the second reason for making 'Night King.' The story of Tsim Sha Tsui East back then resonates curiously with Hong Kong today."
