Dongzhi is one of the earliest solar terms established among the twenty-four solar terms, usually occurring between Dec. 21 and 23 each year. In northern regions, it is customary to eat dumplings to ward off the cold, while in southern regions, people often have tangyuan to symbolize reunion.
