The World Cup finals, co-hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico next year, have been criticized for their exorbitant ticket prices. FIFA announced on Tuesday (Dec. 16) that it will offer a limited number of affordable tickets at US$60 (approximately HK$466) per match, including the final. FIFA explained that the affordable tickets are a way to reward loyal fans, with 400 to 750 affordable tickets available for each of the two teams playing each match, to be allocated by the respective football associations.
Following the group stage draw, FIFA previously raised ticket prices for some matches and set prices based on the tournament's popularity. Group stage tickets ranged from US$140 to US$2735. The cheapest ticket for the final was US$4185, an increase of US$2000 from the previously announced price, and seven times the price of the 2022 Qatar World Cup; the most expensive ticket was priced at US$8860, equivalent to nearly HK$70,000. The tournament is expected to generate over US$10 billion in revenue.
