Hong Kong's High Court on Monday found media tycoon Jimmy Lai Chee-ying, founder of the now-defunct tabloid Apple Daily, guilty of violating the National Security Law for Hong Kong, including on two counts of conspiracy to collude with foreign forces.

Three Apple Daily-related companies -- Apple Daily Ltd, Apple Daily Printing Ltd, and AD Internet Ltd -- were also found guilty on two charges: Conspiracy to print, publish, sell, offer for sale, distribute, display, and/or reproduce seditious publications, and conspiracy to commit collusion with a foreign country or with external elements to endanger national security.

The National Security Department of the Hong Kong Police Force met with reporters this morning regarding the verdict in the case of Jimmy Lai, accused of conspiracy to collude with foreign forces.

Chief Superintendent Steve Li of the National Security Department stated that he hopes everyone will pay attention to Lai's role in the black-clad violence incident. For Lai, young people were merely tools to complete his political tasks, which is outrageous. He mentioned that during the 134th day of the trial, Lai admitted to forwarding a message from Martin Lee on June 8, 2019, aimed at encouraging more young people to participate in large-scale demonstrations to highlight cross-age dissatisfaction with the government. Lai's strategic incitement of young people to engage in anti-government activities has caused great distress to the students and parents of these youths.

Chief Superintendent Steve Li criticized Lai as the mastermind behind the entire chaos, undeniably culpable, and his crimes are numerous, and the evidence is conclusive.
