Following the deadly level-5 fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po on November 26, which claimed over a hundred lives and displaced thousands, the Hong Kong Housing Department, in coordination with the police, has begun dismantling the external scaffolding structures of three severely damaged residential towers starting today (Dec 12).
Large crane trucks entered the estate one after another this morning. Housing Department personnel were also spotted holding structural blueprints of the buildings while conducting on-site inspections. However, no actual dismantling work had commenced at the time of observation.
Background
The fire, one of the deadliest in recent years, prompted urgent safety reviews and drew widespread public concern. The dismantling of the damaged scaffolding is part of ongoing recovery and safety assurance efforts.
