The WTT Finals Hong Kong 2025 kicked off on December 10 at the Hong Kong Coliseum and will run for five consecutive days. On December 11, Team China's Sun Yingsha faced teammate Wang Yidi in a much-anticipated women's singles Round of 16 match. Sun delivered a dominant performance, winning 4-0 with game scores of 11–3, 11–9, 11–7, and 11–7, securing her spot in the quarterfinals.
In a post-match interview with DotDotNews, Sun Yingsha remarked that she had a "very good mindset" during the match and didn't overthink the outcome. Instead, she focused on "every single point" and felt that her performance in the first three strokes and tactical execution was solid.
When asked about balancing both singles and mixed doubles events, Sun responded confidently, "It's manageable!" She explained that she had some rest in the morning, and having frequently played in three events during the Paris Olympic cycle, she is physically prepared. "The real test now is how I manage my energy," she added.
Sun emphasized that the WTT Finals is the last international tournament of the year, and the recent schedule has been quite packed. "I hope to stay mentally energized and give myself positive signals. As soon as I take the court, I will give my utmost effort and showcase my best performance for the audience.
Speaking about her mixed doubles partnership with Wang Chuqin—fondly dubbed the "Shatou" duo—Sun Yingsha said, "After playing together for nearly eight years, we don't need much training or verbal communication. We know each other well on the court."
She noted that matching themselves helps fine-tune their coordination. After enduring challenges in the previous Olympic cycle, the duo has grown mentally and technically. However, Sun acknowledged that mixed doubles always involves many variables. "Since mixed doubles became an Olympic event, the understanding of it My determination has deepened. We still have a dream—to win in mixed doubles.
