The 20th Eco Expo Asia opened on October 28 at the AsiaWorld-Expo, kicking off a series of events. This year's expo, themed "Green Innovations for Carbon Neutrality," gathered exhibitors from 13 countries and regions, with around 340 participating companies. The expo showcased the latest environmental protection technologies and sustainable development solutions, creating a high-quality platform for industry professionals to exchange ideas and foster collaboration. At the opening ceremony, the Environmental Protection Department and the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education signed a cooperation memorandum. Secretary for the Environmental Protection Department Chui Ho-kwong said during an interview that Hong Kong will use this year's expo as a platform to advance green cooperation and talent development with the Chinese Mainland, Southeast Asia, and countries along the Belt and Road Initiative.
Chui Ho-kwong noted that the government plans to establish a Belt and Road Sustainable Green Development Training Centre next year. The partnership with the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education marks an important step in the preparatory stage of the center. He stated that in the future, the Belt and Road Sustainable Green Development Training Centre will collaborate with educational and research institutions to provide specialized and practical training for professionals from Belt and Road countries engaged in environmental protection and sustainable development work.
In terms of ecological conservation and urban development, Hong Kong has also achieved solid results. Citing an example from the Northern Metropolis, Chui Ho-kwong explained that during the development of Kwu Tung North and Fanling North, the Environmental Protection Department restored abandoned farmland that had lost ecological value and transformed it into an ecologically rich wetland, establishing a jointly managed nature park.
